Inquiring into Education Policy through Qualitative Methodologies

In Summer 2026, I was invited by the Korean Society for the Study of Local Education Management to deliver a two-hour research methods workshop. The session invited participants to reconsider education policy as a multidimensional object of inquiry, one that takes shape simultaneously as text, discourse, and practice (see Kim, 2023). Building on this conceptual foundation, I traced the philosophical traditions underlying each formulation and introduced methodological approaches through which they can be studied empirically. More than fifty graduate students and faculty from institutions across the country participated.

6th Asian Heritage Month Symposium, CIDEC East Asia SIG OISE, University of Toronto

I served as an invited academic panelist for the 6th Asian Heritage Month Symposium, hosted virtually by the CIDEC East Asia SIG at OISE, University of Toronto. Alongside Dr. Lin Fang (University of Toronto) and Dr. Ryuko Kubota (University of British Columbia), I reflected on how my scholarly trajectory from international student to Asian American scholar has shaped an approach to educational leadership grounded in transnational inquiry, diasporic reflexivity, and critical hope. I offered a critique of how global whiteness, the geopolitics of knowledge and power, and Asian racialization shape scholarly identities and produce fractures between Asian and other racialized communities, and I closed by considering how early-career Asian scholars might cultivate cross-racial solidarity and scholarly communities of care.
